Transportation, Rail and Air, strikes are common in Italy. They are announced in advance to provide passengers an opportunity to plan accordingly. Expect interruptions:
October 2 ~ National rail strike scheduled, also maritime transportation may be effected.
October 8 ~ Sicily can expect regional strikes and disruptions.
October 9 ~Milan local transportation strikes (busses, trams metro) are scheduled from 0000-2359.
October 10 ~ Florence is expecting 24 hour autolinee disruptions
October 12-13 ~ in Sicily, they are anticipating train disruptions from the 12th at 2100-2100 on the 13th.
October 15th ~ Puglia can expect a 24 hour local transportation strikes.
October 16th ~ A national air travel can be effected by air traffic control, (also, Easy Jet crew strikes can impact travel on the 16th)
October 16th ~ Naples can expect a local transportation strikes from 0730-1130
***The Vatican and The Sistine Chapel offer free admission the last Sunday of every month, from 9AM-2PM with the last admission at 12:30PM. Arrive early (7AM) and expect a 1-2 hour wait for admission once the doors open.
Most Wednesdays, the Pope holds a General Audiance for the public from 09:00AM-10:00AM. Admission is free, however tickets are required.
